AN ECONOMY FOR EVERYONE

Fighting to transform our economy so it works for working families, not just the wealthy and powerful.

New Jersey families are working harder than ever and have less to show for it. Meanwhile, billionaires and corporations are rigging the rules, buying politicians, and leaving the rest of us to pick up the pieces.

I’ve spent 25 years organizing and winning for working families, from the $15 minimum wage to paid sick days for every worker. Now I’m running to bring that fight to Washington to un-rig the rules and build an economy that works for all of us.

It's time to think bigger and be bolder. Here’s how we build an economy that truly works for everyone.

  • No one should have to choose between their health and their paycheck, but millions of workers still have zero paid sick days — forcing them to work sick or risk losing their jobs. I helped win paid sick days for hundreds of thousands of workers across New Jersey.

In Congress, I’ll make paid sick leave federal law so every worker can care for themselves and their family. No exceptions.

  • Childcare costs are crushing families and pushing parents out of the workforce, with many spending over a third of their income on childcare. In Congress, I’ll re-introduce Mikie Sherrill’s Child Care for Every Community Act in the House — ensuring families pay no more than $10 a day, lower-income families pay nothing, and no family pays more than 7% of their income on childcare.

But we need to go even farther. In Congress, I’ll fairly tax billionaires and corporations — and we’ll use the money to pay for child care for every American. text goes here

  • Nobody who works a full-time job should be struggling to survive. If you work 40 hours a week, you should make at least $40,000 a year, and you shouldn’t pay a dime in federal taxes on that first $40,000.

In New Jersey, I led the fight to win the $15 minimum wage. Now, with the cost of living rising every day, it’s time to raise the minimum wage at the national level to $25/hour.

  • A handful of corporations control everything from food and medicine to housing, entertainment, and technology —crushing small businesses, suppressing wages, and jacking up prices.

I’ll fight to break up monopolies, block corporate mergers, and cut red tape for small businesses so local economies can thrive again.

  • Big Tech companies are building massive AI data centers that use enormous amounts of energy, driving up costs for everyone else while they rake in billions. They don’t even have to pay for the energy they use!

In Congress, I’ll hold Big Tech accountable. I’ll co-sponsor Bernie’s moratorium on new AI data centers, and make sure they pay for the energy they use. We’ll invest in clean energy, expand our supply, and lower utility bills while creating good-paying jobs and cleaner air.

  • Republicans forced through devastating cuts to our health care subsidies, and Democrats capitulated.

Now, healthcare premiums have doubled, and millions more Americans will be kicked off their health insurance. We need Medicare for All, now — no exceptions— with:

    • Universal coverage, regardless of employment

    • No out of pocket costs

    • Comprehensive coverage including: hospital care, preventive care, mental health care, substance abuse care, vision care, dental care, maternity care, and long-term in-home or residential care.

  • An entire generation of Americans are barely holding on to the homes they put their savings into buying — and we’re worried our kids won’t be able to buy homes at all.

Hedge funds and private equity are buying up housing stock, turning homes into a commodity and driving up prices and rents. In Congress, I will champion the Homes for All Act to build 8.5 million units of public housing over the next 10 years. And I’ll go even further: I’ll pass a ban on hedge funds and private equity from buying homes — because corporations are not people.

  • We work hard, and after we work hard, we want to get back home to our families. We deserve it.

Right now, our infrastructure is crumbling, and it’s costing all of us time and money. Commuters lose countless hours to delayed and overcrowded trains; the aging tunnels under the Hudson are a disaster waiting to happen; and our roads and bridges are falling apart.

I’ll fight to restore funding for the Gateway Tunnel that Trump illegally froze, and I’ll fight for more federal dollars for NJ Transit so we can all spend less time commuting and more time with our families.

  • We told an entire generation to get educated and play by the rules — only to saddle them with decades of debt, holding them back from buying a home, starting a family, or saving for the future.

I wouldn’t be here without Pell Grants and the EOF program at Rutgers. Every kid deserves that same shot at opportunity. I’ll fight to make college tuition free at community colleges and trade schools for everyone, and at four-year schools for working- and middle-class families — and we’re going to cancel all student loan debt.

  • Union jobs built the middle class and allowed families like mine to make ends meet. But corporations have spent decades making it nearly impossible for workers to organize and form a union, firing organizers, running illegal union-busting campaigns, and facing no consequences.

I’ll pass the PRO Act to make it easier for workers to unionize, set real penalties for union-busting, and restore workers’ power to fight for better wages and working conditions.

A GOVERNMENT FOR THE PEOPLE, NOT BILLIONAIRES

It’s time to stop authoritarianism, reforms the courts, and protect our democracy.

Our democracy is being sold to the highest bidder while working families fall further behind. Billionaires buy Supreme Court justices, corporate PACs write the laws, and wealthy oligarchs shift their tax burden onto all of us.

I've spent 25 years fighting to take power back from the rich and give it back to the people, and that’s what I’ll do in Congress.

  • Billionaires and big corporations are drowning out the voices of regular people. Since Citizens United, dark money has flooded our elections, allowing wealthy donors to spend unlimited amounts of money to buy politicians and rig the rules in their favor.

I support a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United to ban billionaires from buying elections, as well as publicly financed elections to limit the influence of big money in politics.

  • Members of Congress and high-level administration officials are trading stocks based on insider information while making laws that affect those same companies. Lobbyists have more access to lawmakers than their constituents do. Politicians leave office and then immediately cash in by lobbying for industries they used to regulate. All of that needs to stop.

I will champion legislation to ban stock trading by federal officials across all three branches of government, require comprehensive lobbying reform, and prohibit lobbying by federal elected officials and cabinet secretaries after they leave office.

  • The ultra-wealthy pay a lower tax rate than teachers and nurses. They hide wealth in offshore accounts, use loopholes to avoid paying what they should, and hoard billions of dollars while contributing nothing to the common good.

I fully support Senator Elizabeth Warren’s Ultra-Millionaires’ Tax on fortunes over $50 million, as well as a minimum income tax for billionaires. Hence, they pay at least 25% on their full income, including unrealized capital gains. No more hiding wealth in offshore tax havens while the rest of us pay our fair share.

  • The Supreme Court has been captured by right-wing radicals who care more about doing Trump’s bidding than the rule of law. This is the result of a 50-year anti-democratic campaign by conservative billionaires and the Federalist Society to pack the courts and undermine our democracy.

I support articles of impeachment against Justices Thomas and Alito for their corruption and conflicts of interest, term limits for newly appointed Supreme Court justices, a binding code of ethics with real enforcement for all federal judges, and expanding the courts if necessary to restore balance.

  • Insurrectionists are holding office after they tried to overthrow the government, bodily autonomy is under attack, and due process is being selectively denied to vulnerable communities. The 14th Amendment — which we fought a civil war to enshrine — is being whittled away by authoritarians who think the rules don’t apply to them.

I will champion efforts to bar insurrectionists from holding office, protect bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom, and guarantee due process and equal protection for everyone.

  • Politicians are using trans people as punching bags to score cheap political points, with many states attacking trans people’s fundamental freedoms. That has to stop.

I will fight for full equality for LGBTQ Americans, including access to essential healthcare and comprehensive anti-discrimination protections. Everyone deserves dignity, respect, and freedom to be who they are.

  • Income is income, regardless of how you make it. But right now, wealthy investors pay far lower tax rates on their investment income than workers do on their paychecks. Billionaires use the “buy, borrow, die” strategy, where they buy assets, borrow against them, and then pass them off to their heirs — all without paying taxes on the gains.

We need to tax investment income at the same rate as earned income and close loopholes in the tax code that benefit the wealthiest.

  • Big, multinational corporations are shifting their profits overseas to avoid paying taxes, leaving Main Street businesses and working families to pick up the tab. Companies like Amazon, Apple, Nike, and Exxon all pay lower effective tax rates than small businesses here in New Jersey.

Multinational corporations need to pay the same tax rate on profits hidden abroad as they do in the United States. When corporations dodge taxes, they steal from our schools, roads, and communities.

  • Private equity firms are buying up companies, loading them up with debt, stripping them of their assets, laying off workers, and walking away with billions for themselves. Right here in New Jersey, we’ve watched it happen to retailers like Toys R Us and newspapers like The Record and the Daily Record.

I fully support the Stop Wall Street Looting Act to hold private equity firms accountable and protect workers.
